A declining species in our region, this male American Kestrel was photographed by Gale VerHague in the Dunkirk area on the 16th.

BOS member, Christy Hibsch, has a kestrel nesting box on her property and this fledgling is proof of a successful nesting season for her birds. You can make out some of the downy fluff still hanging on to the fresh juvenile plumage.

Ian Campbell photographed this male Hooded Warbler at Hanging Bog WMA, Allegheny County on the 16th. Note the bird flashing its white outer tail feathers.

This juvenile Mourning Warbler posed nicely for Ian Campbell at Hanging Bog WMA on the 16th. Note the gape of the bill which is indicative of a juvenile. Also, note the yellow throat and dusky breast band as well as the broken white eyering which are all good field marks for this species.
