While not a favorite among birds, Staghorn Sumac is a very important late-winter source of nutrients for hungry birds. Gale VerHague photographed this American Robin on the 2nd at the Dunkirk Airport.

Given the cold start to the month, this Greater Yellowlegs really seems to be pushing its spring agenda! John Gustafson photographed this bird on the 6th along Conewango Creek in Chautauqua County.

This group of Greater White-fronted Geese was a great find by Kathy Tucker near the Berry Road Marsh, Chautauqua County on the 5th.

This Snowy Owl was photographed by Mike Zebehazy in the Town of North Collins on the 7th. This appears to be an adult bird due to the overall lack of black barring. Late last autumn, there was a small push of this species into the BOS Study Area.

This Trumpeter Swan, K93, is one of the individuals that nests out at Iroquois NWR and frequently winters near Thorold, Ontario. K93 is a male and was hatched in 2013 and one of the first Trumpeters to be introduced to the Iroquois Refuge Complex. Photo by Charlie Kaars on the 3rd at Buckhorn Island SP.

This immature male King Eider, frequently associating with a female KIEI, has been reliable at Erie Basin Marina for a good chunk of the month. Steve Pitt photographed the bird on the 25th.

Reinstein Woods hosted this Black-bellied Whistling-Duck on the 20th after a push of very warm air into the region. Kristen Rosenberg initially identified the bird and many folks were able to see it throughout the day. Charlene Schneckenberger took this photo.
